MEDIA FOR LABOUR RIGHTS ITC-ILO PRIZE

by Alison Taylder last modified 2009-07-06 18:43

In the framework of its training activities targeting journalists and other media professionals the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO), based in Turin, Italy, yearly launches the journalistic prize “Media for Labour Rights” to identify the “best story on labour rights”, with the sponsorship of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The competition aims to better spread information on international labour standards (ILS) and the work of the ILO supervisory bodies thereby raising public awareness of internationally recognized rights and their relevance to local labour and social issues.

The 2009 edition of the Prize has been won by the article "Plight of a Zambian mine accident victim", authored by Jessie Ngoma Simengwa, a member of the Zambia Union of Journalists.

The Prize Awarding Ceremony took place at the ILO HQs, Geneva, Switzerland, on 12 June 2009.
